Plumtree’s online services:
Bringing therapy and support to you

At Plumtree, we make it easier for your child to receive the support they need wherever you are. With Telehealth (also known as Telepractice), you can access our support online or by phone, whether at home, at work, or on the go. Telehealth is well-researched and widely used across Australia and internationally, with many families finding it just as effective as face-to-face sessions.

How does it work?

We’ve been offering online sessions since 2018 and phone sessions since 2008. These sessions are similar to in-person ones: we work together on your goals, explore strategies for your child, and brainstorm new ideas. You can join via smartphone, tablet, or computer—whichever suits you best.

If preferred, we can hold parent-only sessions over the phone, which is helpful when there’s a lot to discuss or when a private conversation is needed.

When Telehealth might be helpful

Telehealth sessions are flexible and can be helpful in situations such as:

  • When your regular face-to-face session can’t happen because your child is sick
  • When there are topics you’d like to discuss privately without your child present
  • If there are parts of your child’s support that don’t require them to participate actively
  • When schedules are tight, and a video or phone session is more convenient than a face-to-face
  • If your family has recently moved and you’re waiting for new services to be put in place
  • When we need to coordinate with early childhood staff or school, we can set up parent-only meetings during the holidays or other times. This way, we stay connected with you and work closely with teachers to ensure everyone is on the same page.
  • When your usual face-to-face session can’t go ahead due to sickness.

What you can expect

Before your first session, your therapist or educator will call to help plan the session and make sure you’re all set up. Depending on your needs, sessions may include a mix of time focused on your child and parent-only discussions.

Working Together

We work closely with families through Telehealth, just as we do in face-to-face sessions. Your therapist or educator will partner with you, offering support and ideas as needed. Together, we’ll focus on your goals and celebrate your successes.
