Hanen programs at Plumtree offer a supportive way for parents and carers to learn how to nurture their child’s communication and social skills. These evidence-based programs focus on everyday moments, making it easier to support your child’s growth in natural, familiar settings.

TalkAbility™
TalkAbility offers practical ways to help your child develop important social skills. It’s designed for parents and carers of young children with Autism, aged 4-8, who are speaking in sentences and beginning to have conversations.
Explore topics such as:
- How your child currently communicates and the next steps to support their progress
- Understanding how your child learns best and using these preferences to your advantage
- Engaging your child in fun, meaningful interactions during everyday activities
- Extending interactions to create more learning opportunities
- Speaking in ways that help your child better understand you
- Strategies to support your child’s play and social skill development
Program overview
TalkAbility is a 13-week online program that includes:
- One pre-program individual consultation with a Hanen-certified speech pathologist to assess your child and set communication goals.
- Nine weekly online group sessions, each lasting 2.5 hours.
- Three individual video feedback sessions for parents—during these sessions, you and your child will be recorded while playing. Then, you’ll review the recording with the speech pathologist to see what’s working and adjust strategies to better support your child.
Resources
Parents and carers will need to purchase the eBook manual separately to participate in this program. It’s available on Amazon for approximately $59. Once the program is confirmed, we’ll provide a link to make the purchase easy.
Cost
The cost of the course can be claimed through the NDIS. Group sessions are charged under “Training for carers/parents,” while individual sessions are covered under Capacity Building funding for Improved Daily Living or can be paid privately.
The total cost is $3,343.04 per person or couple.
Please note that a minimum of 4 participants is needed for the program to run.
More Than Words™
More Than Words provides parents and carers with tools, strategies, and support to help their young Autistic child reach their full communication potential. This program is designed for children under 6 who are not yet using verbal communication.

- Discovering how your child learns best and using their strengths to your advantage
- Creating fun, engaging interactions during everyday activities
- Extending interactions to increase learning opportunities
- Speaking in ways that help your child better understand you

It Takes Two to Talk™
It Takes Two To Talk teaches you how to become your child’s most important language teacher. For parents and carers of young children under the age of 5 who have a language delay.
Learn about topics including:
- Identifying your child’s stage and style of communication
- Identifying what motivates your child to interact with you
- Encouraging your child to start interactions
- Following your child’s lead to encourage continued interaction
- Helping your child take turns and keep interactions going
- Developing your child’s expression and understanding
