What is AAC and will it be useful to my family?

August 6, 2022 @ 10:00 am 12:00 pm AEST

Explore augmentative and alternative communication systems for
your child

Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) includes all forms of communication (other than oral speech) that are used to express thoughts, needs, wants, and ideas. AAC systems support children to communicate through the use of gestures, signing and devices that are used with or instead of speech.

The aim of this workshop is to provide families with an introduction to AAC, including the different types of AAC systems, when to start AAC, and why to consider AAC as an option that can support developing communication.

Learn about

  • Different types of AAC systems
  • When to start using AAC
  • How AAC supports communication development
  • Ways to support your child’s AAC learning
