Learn practical strategies to discuss developmental concerns with families.

Professionals working with young children often share that one of the most challenging parts of their role is navigating conversations about a child’s development with parents.

These two-session mini-courses provide early childhood educators with specific strategies to communicate with families in a way that fosters active listening and promotes positive, strength-based collaboration.

When we approach conversations in a sensitive, family-centred manner that values parents’ expertise and perspective, we enhance the chances of building strong partnerships.

During this interactive course, you will:

  • Explore why these conversations can feel challenging for both educators and families.
  • Learn strategies to share developmental information in a more effective, supportive way.
  • Clearly share information in a way that actively involves parents in the discussion and is sensitive to their feelings and perspective.
  • Reflect on experiences of working with families.
  • Identify and address barriers to open communication.

This program has been designed by the Hanen Centre.

Participants will receive a checklist template for navigating these conversations with families.
