Learn how to support your child’s AAC use in an everyday home activity

Children who have difficulties with communication can benefit from augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) methods. Some examples of AAC include key word sign, iPad apps for communication, and picture boards. Children learn how to use their AAC system when their communication partners, including family members, model the use of their communication system in everyday activities and routines.

In this practical workshop, you will choose an activity that your child enjoys and be led through the steps to plan the activity so that AAC may be modelled within it. We will guide you to choose key words to focus on in your chosen activity.

If you don’t have access to an AAC system, we can provide you with a picture board so that you can participate in this workshop’s practical component.
