Early Childhood Education Matters

Earlier in 2019, Western Sydney University Early Childhood Education and Inclusion Lecturer, Kerry Staples presented a webinar for Plumtree about the importance of children’s services.

Kerry highlighted the benefits an early childhood service can provide for a child’s development and well being of the entire family. She also covered what to look for in a children’s centre, and why childhood educators are a rich resource who can help with advice. The importance of teacher-parents and teacher-child relationships and the role a centre can play, not only for families but their greater community.
There are some amazing tips for parents of a child with disability on finding the right centre and engaging and collaborating with an early childhood service to achieve the best outcomes.

About Kerry Staples:
Kerry has viewed firsthand the way children’s services enhance children’s well-being and development as well as add value to the community, build social cohesion and connectedness. Before joining UWS, she worked extensively in the early childhood field, managing a range of intervention services for young children and their families. These experiences have significantly influenced her teaching, which focuses on the inclusion of children with disabilities and early intervention and prevention in early childhood contexts. Her PhD research will examine how early childhood teachers and consultants, support the inclusion of children with disabilities in early childhood settings.
