Vision and values

At Plumtree, our vision is a society where children of all abilities and their families are supported to have a full life in the community.

In striving to contribute towards this, we are guided by our core values:

  • Family-centred partnerships: Families are at the centre of decision making and the needs of all family members are important. We aim to work with each family in ways which assist them to meet their goals.
  • Inclusion: All children have the right to participate in the life of the community, and the child’s natural environments are the best places for learning. The whole community benefits from inclusion.
  • Diversity: When we look at the families in our community we see many different cultures, beliefs and structures. We value and embrace diversity in our communities and within our team. We acknowledge and respect the history and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and have been strengthened by working with local communities.
  • Best practice: We continually adapt our practices to reflect new evidence about what works best for children and families.
  • Flexibility: We recognise that the lives of families are impacted by many different factors, and needs change over time. To the best of our ability, we are responsive to families’ individual circumstances.
  • Respect: We are privileged to hear the story that each family tells us. We come to know their strengths, and learn from them.

Plumtree would like to pay respect to and acknowledge the Cadigal Wangal people and their Elders, past and present, who are the traditional custodians of this land where we meet and work. We welcome people from all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nations who visit this centre.
